We are looking for a competent and capable candidate to edit Let's Knit, the UK's bestselling knitting title. Highly organised, motivated and commercially adept, the successful applicant will have excellent leadership skills, a portfolio of proven editorial experience and a strong creative eye. They will be calm and considered under pressure, a diplomatic team leader and importantly an innovator who is full of ideas. Proven social media and digital expertise is also crucial as we transition and extend our media offering.
An understanding of knitting and the knitting industry is desirable for this position, as is an ability to read knitting patterns. Working closely with a team of freelance designers, you'll plan and commission the pattern content for each issue, in keeping with the fresh, modern style that our readership loves. You'll be an excellent ambassador who is happy to meet important clients and represent the company in business, and you'll be involved in all areas of development of the magazine and originate ongoing new ideas for the title.
Duties will include:
- overseeing and managing the editorial team
- working closely with the Vertical Head, advertising team and design studio
- continually reviewing and evolving content strategies that excite the target audience and take into account the research findings
- tracking and responding to trends, generating fresh, inspiring and commercially-driven forward features
- building audience engagement and overseeing the production of high-quality editorial
- briefing and commissioning freelancers
- managing and working within defined budgets
- representing the brand at press events, shows and during company-wide meetings;
Skills and experience required:
- Educated to degree level or above
- Excellent command of written English
- Editorial experience within a magazine environment at senior level
- Excellent management and leadership skills
- Strong commercial acumen
- Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
- Strong organisational skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks
Highly desirable but not essential:
- Understanding of knitting and the knitting industry; mathematical ability
