Job Details
Research Professional News is looking for a talented and experienced reporter to join our award-winning news team, covering research policy and funding emerging from Brussels and across Europe. We’re after someone who can continue a tradition of setting the news agenda for research and higher education, producing stories that are must-reads for politicians and research leaders across the continent.
Established in 1994, Research Professional News publishes authoritative news, analysis and comment on research policy, research funding and research politics. Our journalists cover the research sector from top to bottom, reporting from cutting-edge laboratories, university picket lines and court hearings on research misconduct, frequently setting the news agenda for national outlets. Our online news and magazines Research Fortnight and Research Europe are essential reading for the sector.
We need someone who can produce stories for this most demanding of audiences, interviewing senior politicians for in-depth profiles, crunching datasets to pick out funding trends, and undertaking painstaking work on features alongside rapid turnaround news stories on short deadlines.
The position would suit a reporter with 1-2 years’ experience on a respected B2B, local paper or national news outlet. The successful candidate will produce stories ranging from the impact of changes to publishing practices on the research world to how billions of euros of Covid-19 funding is being spent, delivering articles that are must-reads from Brussels to Berlin and circulated widely in parliamentary offices and university research teams. We are also recruiting for a more junior role focused on the UK and EU. Both roles will be part of an editorial team currently working remotely, with an expectation that they will be hybrid office/homework positions in London in future.
To apply, please send a CV, covering letter, two examples of your reporting and your salary expectations to the deputy editor, Daniel Cressey. Alternatively, please contact Daniel.Cressey@ResearchResearch.com to discuss the role informally and learn more about the job and what it is like to work for Research Professional News.
