Senior Features Writer - The Sun on Sunday

The Features department is the heartbeat of The Sun on Sunday, helping shape the tone and personality of the newspaper. It oversees everything from show business interviews and investigations to campaigns and hard-hitting exclusives plus everything in between. 

 

Role responsibilities: 

To generate exclusive, agenda setting stories, investigations and news based features.

To commission and edit original and engaging features for all our platforms.

The successful candidate will instinctively know what features will work well for The Sun on Sunday across all platforms - and have the skills to ensure they have the biggest impact.

Key accountabilities:

  • Have a wide range of contacts in order to generate exclusive content for the Sun on Sunday
  • Cover breaking news stories and generate agenda-leading exclusive features
  • Turn around copy and content quickly and accurately; mindful of IPSO and legal issues
  • Generate compelling and agenda-setting feature ideas
  • Generate exclusive interviews suitable for any, or all, of our platforms
  • Generate investigation and news based feature ideas
  • Commission content from writers and work to ensure good value on payments    
  • Play a key role in suggesting and leading areas of future development, especially the digital presentation of content and content formats
  • Take responsibility for, or assist with, campaigns as required
  • Take on ad-hoc responsibilities as and when required to ensure the success of the team

  • Takes initiative in order to achieve desired results.
  • Self-starter, organised and a good problem-solver, able to eliminate obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.
  • The ability to think on your feet and respond to events as they happen
  • Deputise when Features Editor is off
  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
