Job Details

We are looking for either a senior or trainee reporter to join some of the busiest and most diverse news patches in London. 

Whether you're an experienced senior looking for a move or an energetic trainee hoping to make an impression we have opportunities on the prestigious Ham & High newspaper and website. 

At the heart of the community for more than 150 years, as a reporter on the Ham & High you will become part of a team responsible for reporting on one of the most charming and charismatic parts of London where no day is the same.

We're also keen to hear from trainee reporters or potential apprentice reporters in east London. 

Working with the Editor, the successful senior reporter candidate will take the lead on nurturing the patch and help set the news agenda on a daily basis for both online and print. You will file content in a timely fasion and be expected to come to conference with plenty of ideas. It is a role that will involve finding innovative ways to tell the important stories across platforms, growing and developing the connection with our core audience.  

As senior reporter you will be responsible for publishing content, ensuring it is legally sound and meets standards of journalistic integrity.

The successful candidate will live in London - preferably on patch. and be able to network and meet with communities in Hampstead and Highgate, they will have a strong journalistic background and be able to work from home or on patch as required.   

IT IS ESSENTIAL YOU HAVE:  

  • Min qualification NCTJ Ideally Senior NQJ qualification or equivalent for senior reporter position 
  • Newsroom experience  
  • Problem solver and open to change  
  • Proven history of creating engaging content  
  • Ability to network amongst the local community  
  • Confident digital and social media skills  
  • Ability to create / use video to bring stories to life  
  • Confident in digging out and creating new ideas and stories  

NCTJ preliminary qualifications are needed for a trainee position. Outstanding candidates, with little or no experience, will be considered for apprenticeships.
