Job Details

News Editor

Do you have experience on a news desk or in a fast-paced news environment? Do you have a nose for a story and a desire to get there first? And do you have a sense of what we find interesting and important at UnHerd?

As we expand our offer, we want to cover breaking news on the topics we pay attention to, new developments in the world of ideas and important stories that get inadequate attention in the mainstream.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for new sections of the site, new newsletters, and keep our diary and commissioning teams alert to what is going on.

Requirements:

  • Experience in a news environment (news desk on a newspaper, TV or online news)
  • Hunger to break a story first
  • Excellent news judgement
  • A good sense of UnHerd’s mindset, and what an ‘alternative news day’ might involve

Salary: Competitive depending on experience

Company

UnHerd.com is a new media platform with a double mission. Our aim is to appeal to people who instinctively refuse to follow the herd, and we also want to investigate ‘unheard’ ideas, individuals and communities. We’re not a news site.

We focus our journalism on the significant events going on in the world, filtering out the distractions to give our readers what they really need to know.

We have five big themes: capitalism, technology, flyover country, religion, and groupthink. We believe that good political coverage should go beyond what’s overheard in Westminster or on Capitol Hill and covering the economy should mean exploring the world beyond Wall Street and Davos.

UnHerd is non-partisan. We are home to fresh thinking and free minds from across the political spectrum. We want to challenge groupthink – particularly in the media – and to help our readers break out of their political echo chambers.
