Job Description:

Dow Jones is seeking a Chief Communications Officer to oversee the global communications function of the company. This is a compelling opportunity to lead corporate communications in a fast and fluid competitive environment of a modern news, data and insight-led business. The Chief Communications officer will develop strategy, messaging and actionable plans in order to strengthen the reputation of the brand as a trusted source of information and further develop the organization's reputation for high-quality journalism and innovation.

The Chief Communications Officer will employ internal and external resources to enhance - and when necessary - defend the reputation of the company, its products and its people. As the company's top communications professional, he or she will create and drive a focused and creative communications strategy that makes use of traditional and emerging communications channels and will be an indispensable contributor to positioning the company with all key constituents.

They will be an inspiring leader with an employee-centric mindset, who is able to lead a cohesive team, develop and communicate a compelling vision, and energize the team behind this vision. This role will report to the Chief Executive Officer of Dow Jones, Almar Latour.

Team Size and Structure: Lead a team of 5-7 direct reports plus agency support

Location: The role will be based in New York

Key Accountabilities

Communications Strategy
  • Lead corporate communications including public relations, internal, external, executive, and financial communications
  • Drive Dow Jones' effort to reposition the company as a leader in journalistic excellence and innovation by creating consistency with a core messaging platform and engaging key internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop and implement short and long term strategies for proactive media relations programs to favorably position Dow Jones and it's leadership with subscribers and within the media

Internal Branding
  • Plan and orchestrate internal communications and tell the DJ story internally, to help shape corporate culture and develop followership at all levels and across the organization.
  • Drive the implementation of diverse, more empowered, entrepreneurial and innovation orientated corporate culture

Financial Communications
  • Work with Investor Relations team to establish and continuously refine the corporate narrative, with clear, compelling and consistent messages to support the brands and corporate reputation worldwide.

Crisis Management
  • This leader will direct the organization's media and crisis communications with key stakeholders including employees, shareholders and media.
  • Remain unflappable during times of crisis and serve as a trusted advisor to executive team in order to implement strategies as crises arise.

Executive and Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as the trusted communications advisor to the Chairman, CEO, executive team and business leaders.
  • Work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, including News Corp. and its Board of Directors, the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones' portfolio of brands.
  • Direct executive communications and speechwriting, including presentations, op-eds and speaking opportunities for the CEO and senior leaders of the company as needed
