Job Description:

Off Duty, The Wall Street Journal's weekend lifestyle section, is looking for an enthusiastic, organized assistant fashion editor to join our Fashion & Style team.

You'll support a busy digital and print section on both editorial and market tasks. You are as passionate and knowledgeable about fashion as you are organized and meticulous, able to juggle fact-checking, sample coordination and general administrative duties. We're looking for someone with at least two years of experience in fashion (ideally editorial), a high taste level, sharp copy-editing skills and a rigorous problem-solving approach. Some experience in reporting and feature writing is required, and news assistants are encouraged to propose and write short features. Fact-checking experience is a plus.

You should also be comfortable working with our digital teams and learning how to use editing and publishing platforms, promote our work on social media and optimize stories for digital performance.

This is an entry level position for aspiring journalists who want to become reporters or editors at the Journal.

While you may start this job remotely, you will eventually be based in our New York office. You will report to Off Duty's Fashion Director.

You Will:
  • Fact-check and copy-edit all fashion and beauty content
  • Coordinate fashion market requests and manage all sample coordination and organization.
  • Work with art and photo directors to plan weekly shoot schedules.
  • Help with on-location fashion photo shoots and the approval of still-life fashion photos.
  • Confirm shopping credits for all featured fashion and beauty product.
  • Distribute PDFs to featured brands and subjects.
  • Liaise with fashion and beauty public-relations teams and attend market appointments when needed.
  • Provide editorial research.
  • Schedule Fashion-Week itinerary for senior editors.
  • Pitch, report and write stories as needed.
  • Help with social media: Instagram, Twitter and emerging platforms.
  • Help with digital publishing.

You Have:
  • At least two years of experience in fashion (ideally editorial)
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Strong organizational skills

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter explaining how you would approach the job and up to 5 relevant writing clips.
