We're looking for an editor to create content that will inspire people leading schools across the country.  

To achieve this, you will gather a network of head teachers, business managers and education advisors who, acting as interviewees and contributors, will ensure our editorial is relevant, expert and valuable to school leaders. 

You will research trends and developments in education and use these to inform content - particularly when those trends tell a story about what makes schools successful. We want to showcase the people and ideas that are driving educational excellence in the UK. 

The editorial you produce will entertain and well as inform - with all content reworked and polished to meet a high standard. In print, you will oversee clean and appealing layouts, guiding the design department with excellent image selection and carefully formatted copy.  

You will be responsible for developing new editorial ideas and campaigns that will support revenue generation, working closely with the advertising department to ensure that content appeals to our clients as well as the readership.  

Our digital growth and data acquisition is key and will be considered in the production of all content to meet an expectation of growing our monthly unique users online, social media followers and email lists. Content is to be creatively repurposed across our channels, and fresh content will be produced for online exclusives. Whenever possible, content will be created to improve SEO.  

You will be the ambassador for our brands, and take the lead on product development where necessary, ensuring the continued relevance and success of our products.  

As Content Editor, you will: 

  • Create expert and engagingly written content across print and digital for the education department.  
  • Support the coordination of our annual awards.  
  • Develop a network of experts contributors and interviewees to inform and create content.  
  • Edit, rewrite and proof content to a high standard.  
  • Follow trends and education policy and use this to inform content.  
  • Regularly generate editorial ideas that make essential reading for our audience and excite our advertisers.  
  • Collaborate with and support the advertising team with editorial that attracts revenue.  
  • Develop our social media channels with posts and content that increase our followers.  
  • Develop and promote digital content that generates email data.  
  • Regularly update our website with content, and optimise content for SEO. 
  • Deliver e-newsletters, taking responsibility for open and click-through rate.  
  • Attend and report on shows. Visit schools and nurseries to interview staff.   
  • Book and oversee photoshoots where necessary. 
  • Create strong visuals for the print magazines through careful image selection and layout suggestions.  
  • Contribute creatively to team meetings and idea generation.  
  • Manage your time effectively to meet all deadlines.  
  • Oversee the ongoing development and improvement of all content. 
  • Manage a budget.
