The Wall Street Journal, Reporter - London
Job Details
Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal is looking for a pan-Europe retail reporter. The region is home to the world's two largest fashion brands by sales, Zara owner Inditex of Spain, and Sweden's H&M, as well as the world's biggest luxury goods makers, with Louis Vuitton now Europe's most valuable publicly listed company.
The region is also home to global sports brands, Adidas and Puma, and two growing grocers, Lidl and Aldi, both of which are trend setters in their industry and extending in the U.S.
You will be tasked with tracking all of these companies as they confront sweeping changes to the retail industry brought by the challenge of online rivals, changing consumer tastes and most recently the coronavirus pandemic. Many are adopting "smart retail" strategies designed to complement their physical stores with digital offerings. They are also moving to reinforce supply chains and manage risk from trade tensions and sourcing controversies, all while pursuing global growth in the face of rising competition from new rivals in China and elsewhere.
You will collaborate closely with retail reporting colleagues in Paris and Berlin, as well as the U.S. You should be able to generate scoops, develop deeply-reported narratives and build a strong network of sources.
You will be based in London and report to the Business Editor, Europe.
