Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a reporter who can take our readers inside the world of news publishing, a beat filled with high-stakes business drama, big personalities and storylines that intersect with culture and politics.

A big part of the job will be to chronicle how traditional players -- from the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post to magazine conglomerates like Condé Nast -- orient toward online growth. News outlets are looking beyond ads for growth in subscriptions and content-licensing, and are expanding deeper into streaming video and digital audio. They're navigating complex relationships with Big Tech companies like Google and Facebook.

You would stay on top of the debate among lawmakers over what, if any, role the government should have in shoring up a beleaguered local newspaper industry. The job also involves following new-media upstarts like BuzzFeed and Axios as such digital players look to strike merger deals or go public. You should be able to generate scoops and develop deeply-reported narratives. You should be a proven digger, with a track record of showing that you are comfortable sourcing aggressively and methodically. Experience covering the media industry, business or finance would be a plus.

You will be part of the New York-based Media & Marketing Bureau and report to bureau chief Amol Sharma.

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter and five clips of your work.
