Job Details

You will primarily be focused on creating exciting content around the hottest trends in UK television. Able to turn your hand at covering a breaking news story, and chasing down quotes, you will be equally at home interviewing a star of stage and screen. The right candidate will be a first-class journalist, preferably NCTJ-trained, obsessed with all forms of television from daytime talk shows, reality TV and soaps to premium Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ box sets.

You will be creatively minded, meticulously detailed, have a firm grasp of media law and a strong eye for trending content - and be adept at social media management.

The role is a 12-month contract with a competitive salary - some weekend and out of hours work expected. Remote working will be considered, although some presence in our central London offices will be needed when required.

Main Responsibilities

  • Find, write, plan and develop TV stories with strong headlines, great pictures and engaging video.
  • Work closely with social and SEO to ensure we are writing the TV stories people want to read.
  • Break exclusives to ensure Yahoo stays a step ahead.
  • Interview stars, attend showbiz events, and build contacts.
  • Manage a detailed TV calendar
  • Cover a variety of TV shows live
  • Monitoring social media and on-site analytics in order to help inform editorial strategy.

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience at a national or major regional title.
  • A proven copywriter and subeditor.
  • First rate communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A proven love of TV - with genuine enthusiasm for the next big show, and an awareness of the UK TV landscape.
  • Experience of CMS and social media platforms.
  • NCTJ training
  • Competent Photoshop skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while working across multiple stories.
  • A flexible approach to shift work - this role will involve nights and weekends, with time back in lieu.
