Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced host and audio producer to lead a new podcast focused on women's experiences in the workplace, as well as the career and money issues affecting their lives and ambitions.

This role is perfect for a self-starter who is excited to help develop the voice and identity of a show. You will be able to use your background in podcasting, radio or another comparable medium to help us develop and grow a new podcast quickly.

As a journalist, you have an understanding of and a deep interest in our core topic areas, as well as experience in research, reporting and interviewing, including in live settings. As an interviewer, you are a good listener, but you also have a broad knowledge of current events and news that you can draw upon to enrich and deepen interviews. You have a strong contact list that you can draw upon with newsmakers and industry executives.

You have strong leadership skills and are looking forward to fostering a collaborative and inclusive team. While audio is your core medium, you understand how to reach audiences in other ways, such as through social media, and have thoughts on how to build engaged listener communities. You've got experience using data and audience feedback to help guide podcast development.

We are a growing audio team that works with many areas of the WSJ newsroom to produce quality, factual, news-driven podcasts on topics that range from business, personal finance and economics to tech and science. We have a solid core listenership, which we're looking to expand and deepen. This position would work closely with a producer.

You will report to the Executive Producer of WSJ Podcasts. While you may start the job working remotely, you will eventually be based in our New York office.

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter explaining how you would approach the job and links with work samples.

You will:
  • Host a weekly podcast focused on workplace, career and money issues
  • Collaborate with coverage areas and other areas of the newsroom to develop audio projects
  • Oversee the production and post-production of the podcast, soup-to-nuts
  • Ensure highest qualitative and journalistic standards
  • Collaborate with our social team on audience development strategies connected to the podcast
  • Manage multiple projects in various stages of development and production

You have:
  • 5+ years' experience working in a newsroom
  • At least 3+ years of experience in podcasting, audio production or a related field that includes hosting in some form
  • An understanding of, and interest in, The Wall Street Journal's core topic areas as well as strong editorial judgment and broad knowledge and interest in current events and news
  • Strong editorial skills, including experience in research, fact-checking and sculpting longform interviews
  • Experience developing and launching new products
  • Working knowledge of a DAW (ProTools or Adobe Audition)
  • A strong contact list and deep relationships with industry executives and media representatives
  • LI-JA1-WSJ
