Through our national newspapers, websites and mobile services, we connect with over 45% of the UK's adult population with over 130 million consumer touch points per month.   

Mail+ is an ambitious digital project, with a subscription-based website and app, focused on news, opinion, lifestyle and multimedia, run by a talented and dedicated editorial team and a start-up mind-set. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced editor looking to join a growing team.

Your focus will be on assisting with the running of the day-to-day editorial operation, which includes editing and production duties on the Saturday and Sunday publishing, and being closely involved in the creative expansion of the brand.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Support the Editor and Deputy editor in the running of all areas of the website and mobile editions, as required
  • Oversee the smooth production and publication of the weekend editions of Mail+
  • Boost our output in line with strategy on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as on weekday editions
  • Work closely with the Editor, Head of Digital and News Editor to drive audience engagement through an increased focus on original journalism, and be able to identify the right areas to focus on to reach a wider digital audience
  • Generate a constant flow of original ideas for news, sport and features
  • Be the creative lead on special sections and projects, and bring these to life to regularly enhance our products
  • Cultivate a highly productive working relationship with the newspaper editors and section heads to ensure Mail+ makes the most of the resource available to us
  • Step up to deputise in the absence of the Deputy editor
  • Assist in the expansion of the Mail+ brand, working on standalone products and off-shoots


Required Experience  

  • Minimum of 5 years working at a senior level on established newspapers, magazines or digital publications
  • Digital publishing experience, including an understanding of how to use data to inform editing
  • Track record of creative excellence and innovation; proven ability to translate original ideas into brilliant content
  • Experience of running editorial teams and working closely with senior stakeholders in digital, tech and product
  • Solid production background and excellent grasp of what makes news tick on websites and apps
  • Excellent editing and commissioning skills; sub-editing background preferred but not essential.
  • Superb communicator and team player. 
  • Ability to work with other teams effectively under pressure.
