Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced news photo editor with great range, experience and journalistic integrity, who will work with section photo editors to curate the strongest images of our assigned and newswire edits for the daily print editions.

You will join a dynamic and fast-paced team of photo editors, working with a variety of stories, from business and financial reporting, to U.S. news, politics and international coverage. While the role is focused on print, there is a need to stay connected to our work on the digital and other platforms.

You will start this job remotely, but will ultimately be based in our New York office. You will report to the Director of Photography.

You Will:
  • Edit assigned and wires photography for print news stories in a fast-paced newsroom, anticipating photographic needs as stories develop.
  • Perform quick and strong research for breaking news stories.
  • Work closely with the print desk chiefs, art directors and other newsroom teams on coverage.
  • Attend daily and weekly content planning and print meetings.
  • Pitch original visual approaches for print, demonstrating an understanding of the different needs of individual stories, as well as the needs of the audience.
  • Contribute to special sections and other newsroom projects as needed.
  • Maintain a strong connection to the assigning news photo editors in the department.
  • Work quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines.

You Have:
  • At least 3 years in a photo editing role and experience on a print newspaper or news magazine.
  • An enthusiasm for good journalism and current events, and excellent news judgement.
  • Proven deep research skills and experience with news gathering and research tools including Storyful, Factiva, Google Earth and DigitalGlobe.
  • Motivation to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Strong organizational, communication and collaborative skills.
  • Knowledge of web tools and programs, including content management systems, Photoshop, PhotoMechanic, video editing tools, FTP, and social media tools.
