Your Role:

To work within The Sun’s MEO playing a key role in the operational management of the newsroom.

Work alongside the legal team to take responsibility for editorial compliance and manage complaints. Take on additional projects and duties to support the Managing Editor as required and agreed.

Day to day:

  • Work alongside The Sun’s legal team to ensure the pre-publication compliance of stories.
  • Work closely with editors on stories, advising on tone and presentation of stories as well as content.
  • Act as the point of contact for IPSO and the lead on any legal issues.
  • Manage The Sun’s complaints process, working with editors and reporters to respond to complainants and resolve disputes.
  • Work with the payments compliance team to ensure requirements are met.
  • Liaise with peers at other publications to maintain relationships and collaborate on important issues.
  • Build a profile as a representative of The Sun.
  • Play a key role in the MEO, taking on projects and additional duties as required and agreed.


What we’re looking for from you: 

  • In-depth experience of the IPSO code, processes and people.
  • Experience of complaints handling for a national publication.
  • In-depth knowledge of media law and experience of its application.
  • Comfortable making high-profile decisions in a pressurised environment.
  • Media training is desired but not essential.
  • Unflappable under pressure and delivers work at a consistently high standard.
  • Pro-active with a willingness to take on any task.
  • Self-starter, highly organised and a good problem-solver, able to devise creative solutions to problems.
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of and passion for the The Sun brand, both print and digital.
