Reach PLC are looking to appoint 2 x Page Editors (Sport Content) for our national news brands (Daiy Mirror, Daily Star and Daily Express).

Within this role you will work closely with our Senior Page Publisher and Page Publisher, as well as fellow sub-editors, picture desk and reporters

You will be an experienced and confident page editor, ideally within sports content who is able to edit and rewrite copy to fit allocated space, fact check, ensuring copy is accurate before publication.

This position is not location dependent.

Key Responsibilities:

• Edit and rewrite copy to fit allocated space, checking facts, ensuring copy is accurate, and written in clear, plain English.
• Write accurate and effective headlines in appropriate house style.
• Ensure copy is written in the appropriate tone of voice for the brand.
• Deal with changes to stories as events unfold and update copy quickly and accurately.
• Adhere to house style rules.
• Ensure copy is legally sound.
• Ensure copy meets IPSO guidelines and company rules and guidelines.
• Uphold Reach's policy around diversity and inclusion and work to ensure our values around non discrimination are upheld in everything we publish.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Ability to concentrate, attention to detail, and accuracy.
• Excellent writing skills with an eye for detail.
• A solid understanding of IPSO requirements.
• Problem-solving.
• Decision-making.
• Planning and organisation.
• The skill and judgment to decide if copy can be left unchanged or needs to be rewritten.
• The ability to rewrite copy quickly, accurately and effectively.
• To meet the very high standards demanded on a national newspaper in terms of accurate, effective and mistake-free copy.
• The ability to write accurate, hard-hitting or entertaining headlines.
• Ability to work under pressure of deadlines
• Be prepared to step up to fill more senior roles including, but not limited to, acting as Page Publisher or drawing pages if necessary
• This is a position that requires a depth of experience in sport journalism.
• Track record of sub-editing sport pages in the newspaper industry.
• Ideally have spent time working as a sport reporter.
• A high standard of computer literacy, including InDesign and InCopy.
