The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced photo editor to work on our features coverage. You'll join a dynamic team of photo editors in New York.

We're looking for a photo editor with great range and journalistic integrity, who can produce high-quality photography assignments in areas ranging from Portraiture to Interiors, Lifestyle, Still-Life and Conceptual.

You will demonstrate broad news interest, wire agency, historic and social media research knowledge - and the skills to work effectively within a large newsroom, with bureaus around the world.

You will show a commitment to working with a diverse network of up and coming and established photographers, have a proven track record of editorial production and visual conceptualization and the ability to work with a small team on deadline.

The work requires creativity, speed, organization and attention to detail, to conceive of and create compelling content for all platforms of WSJ, from mobile to desktop, social and print sections.

You must have at least 3-5 years experience in a photo editing and production role.

You will report to the Director of Photography. This is a full-time staff position.

You Will:

  • Produce and build visual assets for Features coverage for WSJ digital and print platforms.
  • Assign photography and produce shoots
  • Perform historic and general photo research.
  • Pitch visually innovative and original approaches to features coverage, focusing on the online experience and demonstrating an understanding of the different platforms and audiences.
  • Collaborate with audience and platform teams on social strategy and distribution of WSJ content.
  • Maintain a budget on a monthly basis.


You Have:

  • A background in editorial production work, conceptualization and assigning.
  • Strong digital skills. Familiarity with web tools and photo editing programs, including content management systems, Photoshop, PhotoMechanic, video editing tools, FTP.
  • Excellent news judgment and an expansive understanding of mobile-first experience and design..
  • A creative vision and enthusiasm to spearhead and collaborate on new ideas.
  • Deep research skills, including newsgathering and social media tools.
  • Basic coding skills are a plus.
